Good oral care can mean a lifetime of happy, smiling teeth. Unfortunately for many, by the time we reach early adulthood, problems have already started to arise.
At Smile By Design we take a proactive approach to your kids' dental care. Our paediatric dentists are able to provide the highest level of care in state-of-the-art facilities.
We believe that good habits start early for both parents and children. By making an appointment with our experienced paediatrics dentist, you're setting them on the path to great dental habits and perfect oral hygiene.
Just like a child needs to learn to read and write from a young age, so too should they learn to brush and care for their teeth. Regular check-ups with a children's dentist can provide the following benefits:
- Regular cleanings
- Development of good habits
- Monitoring of tooth growth (both baby and permanent teeth)
- Check for spacing of permanent teeth
- Detect early warning signs of abnormal development
- Develop comfort with dental checkups
What age should I take my child to the dentist for their first check-up?
Paediatric dentists recommend taking your child to the dentist before their first birthday. This will get them used to the idea of visiting a children's dental practice and give the dentist an opportunity to teach the parents about good oral hygiene. The absolute maximum age for a first visit is two years.
Is there much difference between a paediatrics dentist and a family dentist?
A paediatric dentist has all the training and qualifications of a regular dentist, with a focus on children's oral care and development. Paediatric dentists understand how baby teeth should be cared for and can diagnose issues and suggest treatments specific to children's gum and mouth health.
How important are baby teeth to my child?
Though your child's baby teeth will eventually be replaced, they are still susceptible to cavities, plaque and gum disease. Good oral hygiene and proper care of your child's teeth will set positive routines for the future and prevent potential problems from arising.
My child is complaining about a toothache. What should I do?
If your child is experiencing tooth pain you should seek immediate oral care from a professional children's dentist.
What is the procedure if my child falls and knocks out one of their permanent teeth?
A permanent tooth can be replaced if you act fast. Find the tooth, rinse it (no scrubbing) and place it back in your child's mouth. If you can't do that, put it in a glass of milk. Head immediately for your nearest children's dental practice. If it's out of hours, head to the emergency ward.
